Excellent post modernist art pottery piece signed by California/Japanese artist, Kazuko Matthews (born, Compton CA, 1934-). The flattened askew pitcher-shaped vase stands just under 12 inches tall. It is 6 inches wide at its widest and features one of her most characteristic geometric designs- stripes (with open triangles on reverse) done in a matte black/white glaze with touches of high gloss glaze at pitcher lip and handle. Permanent collections of her work are on display at the Renwick Gallery in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Marer Collection of Contemporary Ceramics at Scripps College, Claremont California.
